Laurent R. LaVallee was an economist, professor, and suspected communist. During the 1955-1956 academic year, LaVallee was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee and questioned for his supposed communist activities. While it is not known whether or not he was a communist, there are many things that his story can teach students of history in the present. The goal of this website is to teach people about LaVallee and the time that he spent at Dickinson College, as well as the context surrounding his affairs at this institution.
